I started this room last spring when I painted the walls and slowly completed one project at a time and finished up the last project yesterday when I completed the bench at the end of the bed...
You may have seen some of these projects as I've completed them including my chalkboard fireplace...
and my $20 thrift store chair makeovers...
I also gave my old childhood dresser a face-lift that you can see here...
It makes a great place to store all my jewelry...
I'm not sure what took so long to finally just be done with the room. There were still things I wanted to add to the room, but life just got in the way I guess. I decided to really tackle it last week after finding some mercury glass lamps that I fell in love with at HomeGoods to replace my $3 yard sale lamps that I'd been staring at for way too long. I hand-painted "Mr. and Mrs." for a little personalization...
I love the splash of sparkle the mercury glass adds to the room. They go perfectly with my Chalk Paint Coco and silver metallic nightstands that I've had forever (they've seen several makeovers now)...
Besides the paint, I jazzed them up with some cute little glass knobs. I'd love to have some of those mirrored chests to go here someday...will have to save my pennies.
But you know what really makes me happy about this room?...
I only spent about $900 for everything in this entire room (except the mattress) and only $400 of it was for furniture! We had to get rid of many things when we moved across the country, so I've been trying to furnish our house for as little as I can. I scored some great deals including a solid wood bed for $75, window coverings (including shade, 4 drapery panels, and rods) all for $90, DIY bench for $75, those $20 thrift store chairs, and a $100 TV armoire (I don't like looking at a flat screen in my bedroom).
Accessories and bedding filled up the rest of the budget, but yard sale finds like the mirror and crystal chandelier that were updated with some spray paint helped keep those costs down.
I put out my fuzzy, warm fur throws and pillows for the winter... I just love these!
It's incredibly nice to escape to this room at the end of a long day and to wake up here with the sun streaming through those windows to a hot cup of coffee...
Hope you enjoyed! You can also find paint colors and sources over at my Home Tour. I also be sharing a step-by-step tutorial on how to build the bench that is at the end of my bed in the next few days.

it's gorgeous! my favorite parts are the fireplace with gorgeous chairs and the dresser!
WOW, Kristen, your room is stunning and I still can't believe the chairs were only $20. I never find deals like that. Great photos!
Fantastic job! What an inviting and beautiful room. Love the lamps!
Melinda
This is soooo beautiful!
This is a beautiful retreat. :) I am in love with those lampshades. Megan
Hi Kristen. This may be a duplicate comment.
I'd typed a nice long one, then it disappeared.
Love it. Love the lampshades. So clever.
I considered mirrored nightstands for beside our bed, too, but never could find affordable ones that I liked. So, I like your interim solution, and you don't have to worry about fingerprints on them.
Gorgeous room.

Those chairs are one of my favorite pieces. I have a chair I'd like to do in a similar way...your chairs inspired me so! The whole room looks great!
Gorgeous and so much personality! You did a great job!
STUNNING!!! Love the $20 chairs..hope you will share your beautiful THRIFTY room at my party tonight.

I love your colors and textures. You've created such a welcoming space. Enjoy!
You did good girl! It is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy it.
Beautiful! What a retreat! The best part I love about it is knowing all the work and time that went into it! Anyone (with some money of course!) can go out and buy brand new everything and put a room together...but it takes WORK and effort to wait...search and find things for a good price...fix them up and create a gorgeous room like yours!! My whole house is put together with orphaned items that were inexpensive, passed down or free. I know the work involved! You. did. Great.!!!
Wonderful job! Very well done. Those new lamps are really great. I know you will be happy in this room!
Beautiful. What a wonderful retreat. And I know you need it - I've got two little ones and sometimes the end of the day can't come fast enough. Enjoy. thanks for sharing, liz
Kristen...what can I say...other than amazingly beautiful ....with so many creative touches everywhere!...Love the personalized shades, the wonderful chairs...just everything!!!!...What a gorgeous place to retreat to!!!
It's just beautiful, Kristen! You did a fantastic job on this room. It was well worth you taking your time on it. The detail you put into it is evident. It looks like a wonderful retreat!
Amazing job! Your room is beautiful! The chairs, the bench, the chandelier, it all adds to make it that stunning on that low budget!
it is so pretty! Love your lamps, they are adorable!
I love the painted black chandy...and the pretty bed, and coverings...and the fluffy white throw!
I love the hands holding the jewelery on the dresser, and the padded frame holding the jewelery too.
You sure have clever ideas...and such good taste. The fireplace is awesome, and so are the chairs. I am impressed that you did it all for 900.00!
Great job! I love it!
Linda
What an inspiration! I don't even want to go in my bedroom now....
I love the idea of Mr. and Mrs. on the lampshades, so clever! :)
Everything is just lovely. The lamps are the perfect finishing touch!
Wow! Good for you! Your bedroom looks fantastic.. your fabric colors and choices are warm and the room feels wonderfully rich:) I like the Mr and Mrs lamp shades! So cleaver!

What a stunning room. I adore the mix of fabrics and the colors you chose!!! AMAZING that you did it on such a shoestring budget... it looks like you spent 10 times that or more!!!
I can't wait to see how you made the bench!
Wonderful post... beautiful room!!!!
Your bedroom is beautiful! Your chalkboard faux-firebox, that is just awesome. When I first saw the photo, I thought it was a cleaver painting, like the ones that were done 200 years ago, to cover up the yawning firebox during the warmer months, and just loved what I thought was the tongue-in-cheek design of the smouldering fire! Goes to show you how much the art of illusion can fool! Absolutely a-w-e-s-o-m-e! Geez, I keep saying that, I sound like a teenager from the 1990's. Did you paint your bedskirt in that beautiful wide black/white stripe? Only ask because I have seen similarly wide-striped but only in very high-prized decorator magazines. By the way, I think you did a great job reupholstering those chairs with such beautiful lines. You wrote that you made mistakes on them, but I sure can't see them. Kudos to you for having the guts to tackle and complete such a project. Wow! If you haven't heard it before, I won't hesitate to tell you that after seeing this room for the first time, and going through and visiting the links you provided to some of the redos you undertook in order to put this room together, you are just one Super Woman to have accomplished this, and in the time frame you've posted, and with the budget you listed, well, it's just down-right supernatural, lady. My hat is off to you. Can I hire you to do my house? But you'll have to come up to Milwaukee to do it.
What a beautiful bedroom . Love all the fun details that really make the space.I especially love those lamp shades.
Oh gosh, Kristen, your master bedroom is just amazing in its complete look but even MORE amazing is how you achieved that look with all your hard work and creative talents...and for such a great price. I enjoyed seeing this post with all the projects collected together. Thanks for sharing everything with us.
Ohhh it looks so lavish!
Beautiful! I'm still looking that your faux fireplace!
Absolutely beautiful!! I love every detail, especially those chairs and fireplace!
It turned out beautiful Kristen! I am hoping to fix up my master bedroom this year too. Thank you for the inspiration to make my very own retreat!
Love your room, it is stunning and the colors are so soothing. Great attention to detail. Hugs, Marty
Okay, so I know I already commented once already but I was blown away once again when I came across your photos on Savvy Southern Style and took the time to look at the rest of your house. Your taste is impeccable. It is a space I could move right into and not change a thing. I also read that you relocated to NC from WA. I have lived in WA all my life but we are beginning to look at places in your neck of the woods as we grow closer to retirement and more and more tired of rain and more rain. I haven't found many bloggers with such great style from this area. I seem to be drawn into the blogs of Southerners :) Thanks again for sharing. Patti@OldThingsNew P.S.New Follower
Just beautiful. I love the comforter choice! I've been working on a master bedroom makeover (on the cheap also) for several months and I'm thinking I am almost finished. It must be an awesome feeling!

Love the Mr. & Mrs. lampshades.
Lots to pin here - I'm actually working on my bedroom too - why is that always left til last?!
