Revived Ice Cream Parlor Set

I've always liked those cute antique ice cream parlor table and chair sets that you see here and there, but they are getting harder and harder to find them inexpensively.  I actually snagged this set quite a while back to keep and use for a little breakfast-area table or out on the porch at my own home, but it never did land anywhere in my current house.

Since the prospect of moving again in the near future has me purging my house and garage, I thought it was time to finally fix it up a bit and sell it.
The set was chippy and distressed when I found it with kind of a weathered wood top.  I knew I wanted to keep it black, but before it could get spray-painted, it needed the four layers of previous colors to get sanded and smoothed out.  Yes, this set is old...it's been pink, white, yellow, and black in it's former days!
My husband and I worked on smoothing it out with steel wool in the yard while the kids played in the yard one evening and then sprayed the chairs and table legs with glossy black paint...
I used the hand-sander to smooth down the top of the table as much as I could and painted it with gloss black exterior paint that I had after re-painting my front door.  After months of painting with flat, chalk-based paints, it was strange to use anything with a sheen to it again!
I used the exterior paint because of the durability in case it is used out on a porch, but would work fine inside too!  It would be a great little set to eat breakfast at...
This little set is going up to my booth, but I won't be sad if it doesn't sell :)
I hope everyone is having a great week and hoping a bit of spring has finally made it to where you live...it sure has here!  Loving it...

Kristen

Ohh...it is a sweet set! I have the table, in white, but not the chairs. I too have been debating as to whether or not it will land in my little shop.

Such a sweet set, Kristen! I love these little sets, too, and always look them over when I do see them. I have no place to put one in my own home, but now that I have the booth I can get one if I see something good.

What a great little set. Out on the porch with ice cream sundays in the summer time would be great. You did a terrific job on it and hopefully it will find a good home.
Spring is wonderful here in Southern CA.

Thinking of you. Hope we meet up soon. xxoo (ps _ I still would love to do a show if that is still in the works)

OMG I absolutely love everything about this set, the job you did and how you set it up for this beautiful photography! WOW- very well done.

Wish I lived closer, I have always adored those sets, how on earth can you let it go?

Excuse me while I drool and sigh. The little set is so incredible. You sure made it look brand new, wonderful paint and lots of hard work.
It is very hard to find little sets but I live in western CO where it's hard to find anything, no kidding. I get pretty discouraged. Then when I do find something it's in horrid shape for a small fortune. AaArrrrgfgghhh!
We live out in country a few miles from town so I can't go running into town constantly at price of gas, not on SS anyway so guess I shouldn't blame it on area. Happy Days

Sounds like many mixed emotions for the parlor set-- are you SURE you can't find a place for it in your new home you are moving to? It really is adorable!

Thanks for sharing with us and good luck with your move (hopefully, WITH the set on the truck)

I bought a set just like that... for only $5.00. I couldn't believe it when she said only five bucks. I still have the set... but it is in my shed, it doesn't hold fat people very well LOL
big hugs,
Cheryl
