Maybe I'm already secretly yearning for spring or maybe it's the fall planting of daffodil bulbs or getting paperwhites ready for Christmas that inspired me to paint this dresser with an old flower advertisement as inspiration?
I just felt like this dresser was such a blank slate and I had to paint some kind of graphic on it! Despite the lack of curves and details, it's definitely one of the more unique dressers that I've come across. The lady I bought this from said that someone in her family made it several generations before her and it is absolutely solid! There isn't anything but thick hardwood used and I just love the square nails...
After lightly sanding and cleaning, I gave the dresser two coats of SW Lime Rickey...
It's hard to tell in these photographs, but the color is actually a soft, bright green. I hand-painted the graphic (with the help of a projector) with watered down ASCP Pure White. I wanted a washed, distressed look to the graphic.
I then took a sanding sponge and lightly sanded and distressed the edges and lettering and followed up with my favorite furniture wax (Miss Mustard Seed's). Since the scale of this dresser is very large (48'Wx40'H), I needed over-sized knobs for the huge drawers and these giant black and white ones from Hobby Lobby were the perfect fit.
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and I'm hoping someone else does too because it's off to my booth at SuzAnna's Antiques tomorrow along with lots of holiday and gift items!

Maybe it's a good thing we don't all live close to you as there'd be lots of ladies having a custody fight over that dresser, include me. The color and your graphics are exquisite, so serene.
ReplyDeleteGood thing I don't still live in KY or I'd be on the road to get it. One nice thing about KY is it's close to so many other states.
I do have a smaller version of that dresser that I've been wanting to re-do and now I know what I'll do with it
It seems that gorgeous appley green will blend with many other colors as in nature. I've loved it long before it became so popular, always looks clean and cheerful. Think you've got a winner there. Will be interesting to find out how long it lasts in your booth.
Wishing you and yours Happy Thanksgiving
