I've pretty much have always loved those old beds with curved footboards...aren't they so pretty! I found this antique bed about a month ago when a few of us Raleigh thrifters got together for "I Love Thrifting Day". I had a blast and found some great things, including this bed that I picked out for my pre-teen daughter's room...
Well, after bringing it home, she decided it wasn't her style (basically anything I like, she doesn't!)...aaah, the teenage years are not going to be fun! Since the weather wasn't quite as sweltering this week, I finally pulled it out and painted it up...
Since I wasn't limited to the color scheme for my daughter's room because I'm painting for resale, I chose one of my favorite colors (Martha Stewart's Spring Melt). Let's see... I've painted it here and here now! It's just such a versatile shade and can look pale blue, pale green, or pale grey...depending on the light. It's just a soothing color, especially for a bedroom. I mixed it up with calcium carbonate for that homemade chalk paint finish and used ASCP Pure White on the details, sanded down and added a clear wax finish. Hopefully, it will go to a good home soon :)
On to an exciting announcement! As I mentioned here, I'm thrilled to be working with a wonderful group of bloggers to bring together the first ever Southern Bloggers Conference! I had hoped to go to Haven a few months back, but life had other plans for me that weekend. I wanted so badly to meet some of the awesome, inspiring, incredible women behind all the great blogs I read, but now I'll have that chance again in two short months! Besides meeting some fellow bloggers, learning how to organize and grow a blog and learn some great fall decorating tips, I have the opportunity to share some the furniture painting techniques that I've learned over the last several years...
I'm fairly new to blogging, but have been painting and re-finishing furniture for antique shows, shops, and my home for quite a few years now. I'm also going to have some help teaching how to turn those furniture projects into a work of art from those super-talented parents I keep talkin' about!
And the attendees of the Southern Blogger's Conference are in for a real treat because Annie Omar from Maison Blanche Paint Company will be there to introduce her beautiful new line of chalk-based paint, "La Craie", as well tips she’s learned through her years as a decorative painter and faux finisher. My friend, Amy, wrote up a great interview with Annie here. Head on over and check it out...I can't wait to meet her!
The nuances of milk paint?...
Glazing?...
Stripping old finishes, staining, painting with latex, veneer and furniture repair...The topics could be endless! What would you like to learn about?
If you are planning on coming to the conference (or even thinking about coming to the conference), let us all know! Just write a post on your own blog about it and let us know what you're most excited about, what you're hoping to learn and most importantly what you're hoping to take away from the conference.
Then, link up your blog post below or on one the following blogs so we can all get to know you. It will appear on all of our blogs as well as The Southern Bloggers Conference blog.

I'm really looking forward to your session the conference, Kristen!
ReplyDeletethat bed is just beautiful! i love that color!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful bed, Kristen! It's too bad your daughter didn't want it. You've got to do the "it doesn't matter to me either way" attitude once they hit that age! : )
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bed, I love the color. I'm on the hunt for an antique bed for my daughter's transformation to a big girl room. What size is this ???
ReplyDeleteoooh I hope I will be able to make the conference, but my daughter's birthday is so close to it. I have to wait and see.
OK Kristen, I also want to know what size this bed is. I would love a queen-sized bed like this for my guest room. If this is a queen, let's talk. Otherwise, will you keep your eyes out for one for me during your thrifting? Between us, we should be able to find one, huh?

Everyone is looking for sweet dream and the above bed with sweet dream is really beautiful. I am missing its more picture but can feel its elegance. I am thinking to get some white beds for my new apartment and hope to get sweet dream as shown above.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing about your daughter not likng the bed...just give her a few years and she will be asking you, if it's still around somewhere (like maybe in the basement...just waiting for her). My 22 year daughter, now loves my style and taste in decorating, but during middle school and early high school years, all bets were off. Believe me, she will come around, and next thing you know, she will want to hang out with you:) Oh...almost forgot...the makeover is stunning!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
I'm hopping over from the POWW party - love the painted bed! You chose a beautiful color and the curves are stunning... it makes me wish I had a little girl to decorate a room for! I think we met last fall at the flea market with Miss Mustard Seed and I'm excited to hear about a Raleigh area blog conference - I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI have been searching high and low for a curved headboard and footboard for my daughter and can't find them anywhere! You were lucky to score one! Someday we'll find our princess bed!
ReplyDeleteLUV LUV LUV that bed! It's just gorgeous!! I'm sure that you won't have any problems selling it soon! If I lived closer, I'd be snapping it up! lol!

ReplyDeleteYour skills with furniture are awesome! Thank you for joining me at HSH!
