Does that happen to you when you shop with your mom/daughter? We always laugh because usually we try and buy the same things at sales and we were both in the furniture biz. I also had my eye on a beautiful round desk and we made a deal...I'll bid on the desk and she'll bid on the table. Well, it didn't work out that way... I got outbid on the desk, but my mom got this table for $50. I tease her that if it wasn't for the fact that it's going in her new house here in NC, I would have bought it :)
My mom had to sell and get rid of a lot of her furniture before she moved out from Spokane, WA so she'll be re-finishing quite a few pieces in the near future, including this table. She didn't care for the honey oak finish so she stripped the old finish off the top and re-stained it in two coats of dark walnut.
That old oak really soaked up the stain, but it turned out smooth as butter after a coat of wax. She wanted some contrast with the legs and painted them out in ASCP Old White and then coated them in clear and dark wax...
It was her first foray into using chalk paint products...I think she nailed it... and she made that gorgeous table runner too!
Now all she has to do is wait for her house to be built to put it in!

It's a great table and she did a lovely job! Thanks for sharing her project at Potpourri Friday!
Kristen...your mom rocked that table!!...and the runner too!!!...My friend and I would do the same thing that you and your mom did...we would have to negotiate on who is buying what...that's what happens when you have the same taste!...
Im SOOOOOOOOOOO in love with this table that I cant even begin to tell you how much! :)Gorgeous job here seriously. Deidre~ http://simplysimplisticated4.blogspot.com
THAT is a gorgeous table, Kristen! I love the heft to the legs and the stained top and painted base is beautiful. I'm sure she can't wait until she has a house to put it in. So, do you get to hold onto it until then? : )
What a great table (and a great price)! Beautiful job!

Love the legs on that table. Looks fantastic!
I am so loving the tables that I see with ivory-colored legs and base and the top a darker, richer stained color. Yours turned out simply gorgeous! We have an old table sitting in the garage, and this is the look I want for it!
Oh your lucky mom, this turned out gorgeous. My grandparents had a table very similar to this, it was thier original dining set purchased new. They've been gone many years now. I remember so many meals there. Loved seeing this one updated so beautifully!
So pretty! She did an awesome job!
you find the BEST stuff! love this table!
Gorgeous table, and I love the new, improved finish! :)
What a fun time together with your mom. The table runner accents her work on the table beautifully!

The table is awesome. I have one like that and maybe I should paint the legs.
Blessings,
Audrey Z.
you always have such pretty pictures!
I love your table. The dark walnut is my favorite stain too and the chalk paint is beautiful too. Great job.
Yes, she got it right ... it is charming! I love the runner and the table scape as well, and lucky you for having the available 'back drop' too!
Love it! Those legs are AMAZING!
LOVE, LOVE,LOVE!!!! I am really wanting to do this to my kitchen table! You did a great job and for $50...Hello!
I am seriously DYING because I literally just bought a table just like this today... I mean exactly. The only difference that I can see is that mine has a 5th leg in the center - and I paid a bit more. I told my husband my vision for it and he wasn't sure and then I stumbled across your blog! All I can say is BEAUTIFUL!! You completely validated my vision for it too :)
Oh, I hope this doesn't bring despair to your day, but won't a waxed finish on a table top be just a magnet for water marks, etc.?
Gorgeous transformation ( I am so dying to paint my dining room table - but it's almost the last wood piece in my house - hubby is fighting to the death over it lol )
Love love love this table!!!
What a stunning table...and what a score price wise. Congrats! I love the lovely contrast between the wood top and the legs. Does your mom have a blog/website for her furniture business?

Very very beautiful! This reminded me that I need to stain the top of a dining room table I'm painting instead of painting Old White and just dark eacing! Thanks!
Wow, what a gorgeous table your Mom has finished. Perfect for a new house.
Beautiful table and beautiful paint job! Love those sturdy legs!

That is a show stopper piece ... just gorgeous!
The table is beautiful, and you did a great job of styling/propping. Really nice post!
The table looks gorgeous! Not only the makeover, but the styling too. How far did you have to go to find that perfect spot in the woods to photograph it?!? Love the whole setting!
Oh I love this table. The transformation is exquisite. Love where you took this picture. Linda
Love the table, love the finish!
Love the table, love the finish!
Hello. I was searching for ideas to transform my antique oak table and I found your blog. My table is almost identical to the one your mom purchased. I was wondering how she removed the original casters, as I would like to do the same (without spliting/damaging the wood)? Thank you very much!
