I know it's been since Luckett's that you've heard from me...
I've slowly been picking away at projects for my master bedroom since we moved in last August. We sold most of our bedroom furniture before moving across the country, so in many ways I've been starting over and on a tight budget...of course. One of my favorite ways to save money is simply updating an old piece of furniture that I already own...Before with application of Citristrip |
This old dresser has been in the family for several years and I inherited it when I was a teenager...yes, I still have my dresser since then, but it's solid, has beautiful lines, and in great shape (except that chipping paint on the top). This has been on my list to re-do for as long as I can remember, but like many other personal projects, it was put on the back-burner as my "business furniture" came first and I wanted to nail down a color scheme for my bedroom first. When I painted this with ASCP Coco right before Luckett's, I knew that I was going to use this color for the job as it goes great with the blue-green-gray shade that I chose for the walls (Martha Stewart's Spring Melt).
I stripped the thick, chipping old factory paint finish off the top, stained it in a dark walnut shade and sealed it with wax. I painted the dresser out in Coco, spray-painted the handles a creamy ivory and gave the dresser a white glaze wash to highlight the details. I used the same wash on my lampshades...
and lamp bases...
You can find my technique here. It's so nice have this dresser done! It's just one more piece closer to a completed bedroom...not to mention I have a nice place to store my jewelry now...
I've got a couple more projects to complete before the room is all done, but I'll leave you with a few preview pics...

I'm sorry to hear that things have not been too great right now, but I will keep you in my thoughts. I hope those stones go away quickly for you ~ you'd think there would be something you could take to shrink them in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom looks absolutely gorgeous! So peaceful...a great retreat! I'm praying for you...Psalm 121:1-2
ReplyDeleteKristen: I just found your lovely blog via MissMustardseed. I love how you finished your dresser. It is really my favorite finish so far for our old (Dixie) bedroom furniture. I had it too, only saved the bedside table.Anyway, I have kidney stones, too.Had to have lipotripsy once. The BEST advice I have is to drink 12, yep, 12 glasses of water a day. I KNOW how you are feeling, hope they pass soon, painlessly. Michele michlt3@rose.net

Wow! The dresser is beautiful. I want to do my bedroom set exactly the same! Did you do the glaze on everything but the drawers? They seem to be slightly darker than the rest of the dresser. Really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Nutsy, tried to reply via email, but would not work as you have "no-reply" in your email settings. Anyway, I didn't end up glazing the drawers because the put the dresser back together and just liked them the way they were. You can also glaze if you prefer.
ReplyDeleteI love the way the stain turned out on the top of the dresser! How it has a great rich color but still allows the wood grain to show through. What stain did you use?
ReplyDeleteHi! This is beautiful! I am recreating this same look with my french provencial bedroom set. I was wondering if you would mind telling me what color and kind of spray paint you used to paint the handles with. Thanks! Look forward to hearing from you!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh your room is so beautiful! Love love.
