At last, I finally completed and put the finishing touches on my laundry room! I've been picking away at it here and there all summer, but finally got things hung up and organized...When we moved into the house a year ago, it was pretty builder-basic...
...Plain walls, no built-ins, etc. It's not an overly large laundry room and I had to sacrifice having a utility sink and proper mudroom because it's an upstairs laundry, but after living here for a year, I'm really happy to have an upstairs laundry. With three kids, it feels like I'm always running a load and it's much more convenient to switch loads, not to mention that I don't have to schlep baskets of clothes up and down the stairs all the time!
The first thing that I did to liven up this small space was to whip out my favorite painter's tape...
I didn't have a single bleed through with the green Frog Tape. Stripe painting tip: Mark your stripes to differentiate where your paint goes! I used the off-white builder color that was already on the wall and marked off and added Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter for the stripe color. In addition to the large horizontal stripes, my husband and step-dad installed a simple built-in laundry folding table in an empty niche. The project was about $30 and worth every penny...
I love having that counter...so functional! After the construction and painting, it was time to add the fun stuff...
I absolutely love decorating with vintage and flea market finds...adds a bit of character to a room! I picked up the laundry carts in a barn dig and vintage show for about $50 for the pair a few years back and used them for display at shows, etc. They are a bit different in size, but that's okay...
I also moved in a iron rack that I've had for a while and spray-painted it black to pop from the walls...
It's a perfect piece to hold some vintage goodies, cleaners, and other laundry storage. I'm a sucker for displaying everyday items in creative ways...
I didn't have to purchase much for this room as far as accessories go, I simply "shopped" around my house for bowls, containers, and other items. I did splurge and ordered the $35 oversize pin set from Ballard Designs...
Besides the pins, all I purchased was the lumber, paint (mixed in Behr), stripe rug, and fabric for the laundry carts and the black and white valance my mom whipped up for me to hide the plumbing, making the total laundry room makeover ring at at just about $130 out-of-pocket!
And I haven't forgot...I promised a tutorial on making these laundry cart liners. Unless you plunk down the cash for Pottery Barn's lined laundry carts, most vintage ones you come across won't have a liner. My mom and I teamed together and put together a "how-to" that will be up this weekend!

I loooove your laundry room! I am about to start our laundry room facelift next week. I've had fun collecting vintage goodness for it, and can't wait to get started. I am hoping for a similar vibe to yours =) ps do you have any more typewriter bracelet letters? I bought one a few months back for my Mom and wanted one for myself, but you didn't have the letters (need a C, E, and M). Thanks! =)
