I'm completely embarrassed to admit, but I bought this for $50 off of Craig's List 3-4 years ago and it was already painted a glossy black, but completely scuffed up and didn't come with any hardware. It was exactly what I was looking for to corral all my "stuff". I promptly brought it home (back in Spokane, WA) and used it in the basement until I could get around to re-doing it and find 26 affordable label pulls...yeah, that was the hard part!
Well, two major moves in a year (one being across the country), as well as years of tipping the cabinet forward every time I needed to open the drawers (yes, completely sad...I know), I finally broke down re-painted it and added some hardware...
I used to periodically check Van Dyke's Restorers for reasonable library/label drawer pulls in nickel and other finishes (never brass), but after pulling my office/craft room together, I thought I could go with the brass and save some serious cash. These pulls were only $1.99 each bringing the total of the entire cabinet to about $100.
I think the brass works with all the other vintage elements in the space...
It's been so incredibly nice to be able to actually open those drawers and have labels! My office just needs some curtains and I have plans to make a large memo board and I'm all done, but first, I'm off to finish my laundry room, master bedroom, and girls' bathroom...whew! Next up, my mom and I are going to be giving you a tutorial on how to make vintage laundry cart liners...

ReplyDeleteI love it Kristen! Just curious - is it made out of wood or metal? You're teasing us by not showing more of your room, but the peeks you do give are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love it, Kristen! What a great storage piece for a craft room and I think the brass label pulls were the way to go. It looks like a great room, too.

ReplyDeleteI'm coming over to craft tonight. I can be there in 2 hours, so expect a knock on your door around 1:30. Oh wait, I don't have your address.
ReplyDeleteLove this, and I love the bookcases flanking it. Vintage as well? Or some fab finds of yours. I have an armoire in my craft room, but it's not quite right. Shelves aren't configured right. But I like your bookcases with the drawers in the middle idea.
Inspiring, as always. And congrats on the feature today at Miss Mustard Seed!

Saw you on Primp and I had to check out this post - those library card catalogue looking things always get me. If you don't like your brass use some rub n' buff. It's like $5 for a tube, you rub it on with your finger and any metal finish can be changed. So neat.
ReplyDeleteI'll be following you. Don't be afraid.
Lol
What a pretty piece! I guess many people forget how much so much hardware can cost, but yours came at a very good price! Well done!
